When you register for a trip you will receive an information packet that details when and where you will meet your guide and group for a pre-trip orientation. For multi-day trips, this meeting normally takes place at 4:00 the day before the start date. At this meeting you will prepare for your upcoming adventure. This meeting takes place at the following locations (for all trips not listed, we notify guests of meeting location upon registration):

• Grand Canyon and Utah Tours: Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff, Arizona (mule-assisted tours meet in Tusayan, Arizona or the South Rim)
• Yellowstone Tours: Bozeman, Montana

You will find lodging recommendations in your pre-trip information packet as well as on our Friends page. For lodge-based tours the lodging is included and will be detailed in the packet.

All multi-day tours include transportation from the town of origin to the trail head and back. Flagstaff area day hikes and Photography Tours also include transportation to and from Flagstaff.

All of our guides are very knowledgeable about the history of the areas they guide in. You will have the option to learn about the natural and cultural history of the region you are venturing into. There is a tremendous amount of fascinating history to learn about if you're interested, so just let your guide know how much you want to know!

Your safety is our top priority, followed by fun and comfort. All of our guides are very experienced in the mountains and canyons. We require all of our guides to be certified as Wilderness First Responders or EMT's. On many of our tours the guide also carries a satellite phone.

We do not expect any prior backpacking or even hiking experience, however backpacking can be a physically demanding activity. All of our trips are differentiated by level of difficulty. While planning your trip we will work with you to determine the right trip for you based on your physical abilities, experience, and desire (easy, moderate, strenuous, or extreme). We recommend starting an exercise routine several weeks to several months prior to your trip date, especially if you live at or near sea level. Many of our trips are at higher altitudes (7,000 feet up to 18,000 feet), demanding at least a modest level of cardiovascular fitness.

You will receive an equipment list once we have confirmed your reservation. We provide backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and all cooking gear and eating utensils. For local stores to outfit yourself, see our Friends page.

If you have any diet restrictions or preferences, such as vegetarian, vegan, or Atkins, please tell us before hand and we will attempt to accommodate your dietary wishes and needs at no extra charge.

We recommend that children be age 12 or older to participate on a trip. If your child is under the age of 12 give us a call and we'll work with you to make a responsible choice.
